What Fresh Statistics Tell Us About Twitter's Decline

Short link: http://bit.ly/1kQlo3e

The value I found in this post was not so much about a putative decline of Twitter but more about the significance of image-sharing technologies and platforms ("visual networks") and what that might mean for the strategies we develop and implement for social business.

Excerpt:

We are not all going to be bloggers. And there is likely a finite cap on the percentage of Americans who want to broadcast their thoughts to people they don't know (i.e., Tweet.) But sharing images is a basic human behavior, passed down from when your family pulled out the slide projector, or VCR, or Flip recorder (depending on your particular vintage.)

New visual networks aren't training us in new behaviors; rather, they are facilitating behaviors we are already trained in.

How to Use Networking 3.0 to Make New Connections

Short linkhttp://bit.ly/1fSzpjy

This is a potentially challenging but also potentially rewarding post about business networking. If your current networking is not working for you (or even if it is and you want it to be even better), you could find this short but well argued post worth visiting.

Synopsis:

Networking 1.0 = 'What can you do for me?"

Networking 2.0 = "What can I do for you?"

Networking 3.0 = "networking solely for the benefit of your best existing clients and colleagues".

That's definitely an over-simplification of the detailed explanation in the post.

The comment stream is also worth reading (and not just because I commented!).

Hashtagging In Social Networking - A Guide To Using Them Right

Short link: http://bit.ly/1oc0QHA

Since the hashtag (US pound sign) was introduced on Twitter seven years ago to group items under a specific heading it has been both a great help to anyone wanting to follow a discussion and also a nuisance when abused - e.g. by people using too many hashtags in a tweet or other post, or by people hi-jacking a hashtag to promote their own products which may have nothing to do with the hashtag-signified topic.

More networks now use the hashtag, some effectively, others not so well.

For each network there is something different to know about how to use hashtags well.

This post is a valuable guide for anyone wanting to make effective use of hashtags on Twitter and on other networks, specifically Instagram, Facebook, Google+, Tumblr, and Pinterest,
