Are You Networking on the Wrong Social Platforms?

It's easy for business people to get discouraged about social media. They may have tried Facebook or Twitter or LinkedIn and not seen any positive results. As this article says "It is very possible that these brands were simply using the wrong social media channels to network their brand".

A more strategic approach will involve a process of working out what the business's key objectives are in being on social media in the first place - for example whether to attract new customers, retain existing customers, or - say - to raise brand awareness.

Note that the actual title of this article is "Is Your Brand Networking in the Wrong Places?" I changed it for here: not everyone uses "brandspeak" but the article still makes sense when you substitute "You" for "your brand".

14 Twitter Tips to Take Your Tweeting to the Next Level

Many people, probably most, use Twitter just for fun and personal socializing. Others use it professionally, for marketing, selling, customer service, politicking and so on. This article is chock-full of tips and information for anyone using Twitter for their business.

It starts with a few excellent, basic tips that make sense for both "amateur" and professional use:

  • You don't have to read every tweet
  • Put your favorites into a list
  • Use a scheduler like Buffer (the article comes from Buffer)
  • Maintain an informative, smart bio
  • Engage other users directly
  • It's okay to reshare the same content

Then it gets into the professional use, with 14 valuable tips, explained and illustrated with screen shots.

How to Increase Your YouTube Engagement by 374%

As i say to people, YouTube is an amazing gift to small business - the capacity to have our own broadcast video channel, free. And then there is the search element - the second most popular search engine after Google.

Our social media strategies can hardly be called adequate, let alone complete, if we don't make room in them for using this powerful platform in some way.

This article incorporates an infographic with some compelling data. The two that really struck me were to do with emails.

  • 96% increase in activating a call to action (CTA) in emails with an embedded YouTube video
  • 51% increase in subscriber to conversion ration in emails with an embedded YouTube video
Those figures, and others in the infographic, tell me I need to get serious about using YouTube.

Do they give you food for thought, and/or a prompt to action?

Or are you already doing everything effectively with YouTube?
