Myth Busted: My Industry Isn't A Good Fit For Social Media

Jayson DeMers - ForbesShort link: http://onforb.es/1m7GTv9

This article made me think of conversations like this:

Person at networking event: "So what do you do Des?"

Me: "Blah blah blah social media blah blah blah."

Person...: "Oh, social media doesn't work for our industry/business/market."

At that point I usually see someone on the other side of the room I need to talk to and make my escape.

This article tackles the "won't work for us" argument very well.

Regardless of your niche or industry, your customers or clients are on social media: it's just up to you to figure out which platforms they're using, and how best to reach them.

The Current State of Content Marketing 2014

For the benefit of those not into online marketing jargon (and frankly, I had to check on this), "content marketing" emphasizes the provision of quality content  - contrasted with traditional pitching of products and services. As the Content Marketing Institute observes:

The essence of this content strategy is the belief that if we, as businesses, deliver consistent, ongoing valuable information to buyers, they ultimately reward us with their business and loyalty.

This article contains and comments on an excellent infographic, with lots of fascinating information. For example, content marketing is 62% less expensive than traditional marketing, but results in 3 times more leads.
