This Week's Bites

Is social business the new trend in Middle East?

http://www.dubaichronicle.com/2014/09/28/social-business-new-trend-middle-east/

Not all the news from the Middle East is about war. A recent global study by Deloitte has picked up some interesting data about social business in the region.

"Maturing organizations in the Middle East are led by executives who believe in the potential of social business, agreeing that social business represents an opportunity to fundamentally change the way their organization works, and leave a positive impact on business outcomes," explains Rana Ghandour Salhab, Talent and Communication Partner at Deloitte Middle East.

Are You Driving Business With Twitter? Find Out With Hootsuite's New Tool, Grade Your Social

http://blog.hootsuite.com/driving-business-with-twitter-find-out-with-hootsuite-grade-your-social/

Just like report cards at school, Grade Your Social offers you a summary of how well you're doing on Twitter. The summary report is divided into three main categories: reachengagement and profile branding. Each section of the report visually captures your unique Twitter data and explains how each of these factors (reach, engagement, profile) can benefit your business.

The tool is easy to use - you just sign in with your Twitter account - and delivers the result quickly. I scored an A- for reach, a C for engagement and an A+ for profile branding, giving me an overall rating of A-. So I am working now on getting the overall score to A+.

Will new social network Ello finally topple Facebook's dominance?

http://www.zdnet.com/will-new-social-network-ello-finally-topple-facebooks-dominance-7000034161/

Ello, the new ad-free, porn-friendly social network is taking the Internet by storm with people clamouring for invites to the site. But does it have what it takes to make a dent in Facebook's dominance without mining data about our connected lives?

I'm not recommending you sign up for Ello, but I like to keep up with what's happening, and there were some 31,000 signing up every hour. It's the latest happening thing! Also, I always like to get in and register my username before some namesake gets it. So I elicited an invitation from a colleague and signed up.

Will it topple Facebook? I'm no expert but I seriously doubt it. But who knew about Twitter when it started?

So far I am underwhelmed about Ello, but if you want an invitation I can send you one as long as I have some. Just email me.
