New Data: What Types of Content Perform Best on Social Media?
This is a very helpful post, especially as it draws on and spells out the findings of some research into the attention given to social media content by type.
Five content types are listed: How to post, Lists, What-posts, Why-posts and Videos.
So what's the ranking order?
Lists came first, narrowly; What-posts came a definite last.
- Lists narrowly claimed the most
social traction at 22.45%
- Why-posts earned 22.32% of social traction.
- Videos
drew 18.94% of total shares and performed well in Q4.
- How-to articles earned 18.42% of shares.
- What-posts had the lowest social traction, earning 17.88% of total shares
But that's not the whole story. There are variations for different industry verticals, variations for different times of the year.
Note that with the data about times of the year you might need, depending on where you are based, to think seasons rather than months and then adjust. For example, July in the USA is summer, in Australia it's mid winter.
There is a helpful infographic to steer you through all the date.
Top 30 Women In Social Media Who Are Rocking It #LikeAGirl
This list, put together by Kim Garst, herself a social media expert, is great for anyone who is looking for outstanding women on social media, to follow and learn from.
I can vouch for the quality of the contributions and engagement of at least 9 of the 30: Denise Wakeman, Mari Smith (especially for Facebook), Viveka von Rosen (LinkedIn expert), Amy Porterfield, Ann Handley, Laura Fitton, Sue B. Zimmerman (Everything about Instagram), Jessica Northey and Pam Moore (marketing).
I'm sure the rest are tops too in their own ways.
And there are a whole lot of others I could add from my Tops list. I'm just concerned that I might leave someone out!
Short story: there is no lack of terrific women contributing grandly to the socialmedisphere.
Podcasters Community for Everything You Wanted to Know About Podcasting
This is not about something new but it is priceless information for anyone who is a
podcaster or thinking about starting a podcast.
Podcasters is a great community on Google Plus.
My including the link in this week's Social Business Bites was prompted by a friend asking
today about where to get information about podcasting equipment.
Easy. At the Podcasters Community, there is a whole section on "Gear" and one for "Buy, sell & trade Podcast Gear". There are also sections on Audio podcasting, Video podcasting, Podcast books, Podcast websites, Events - even Podcast Jokes! - and of
course General Discussion.
I am continually amazed and delighted to observe the caliber of people in the community, including leaders in the podcasting world, and the generosity of very experienced and knowledgeable people in helping the rest of us. It's a
very courteous group, which is nice in this day and age.
Very friendly bunch. Check it out.
