Social Media Productivity with IFTTT (If This, Then That)  Kevan Lee

The full title for this post is The Big List of IFTTT Recipes: 34 Hacks for Hardcore Social Media Productivity.

IFTTT ("Connect the apps you love"), in case you haven't come across it, is a nifty tool. Basically, it is software that you set up so that one event triggers another. For example, automatically post your Instagrams as Twitter photos, or add new Twitter followers to a Google spreadsheet. Those are examples of IFTTT "recipes" and this post is a Big List of 34 such recipes.

Post author Kevan Lee (from Buffer) says:

Our focus on improvement and efficiency has led us to blog smarter, share smarter, and approach problems and activities with a fresh perspective of getting more done as quickly and simply as possible. To that end, we love automation. We get a kick out of tools and apps that do some of the work for us, leaving us more time to invest elsewhere. IFTTT is one of our favorite tools...

Using Tumblr to Inspire Fan Activation    Kat French

Sub title: What role do custom content curators have in the wild world of Tumblr?

Tumblr is a blogging platform and home to over 231 million blogs and 108 billion posts.

Pretty jargony post but definitely something to look at for anyone needing to generate & maintain fandom. Note especially how major tv networks are using Tumblr.

Tumblr skews young and passionate, and is well known for active fan communities surrounding books, television series and movies. While Gen-X fandoms congregated on forums and discussion boards, millennials geek out over their shared passions on Tumblr. Typically, using an extensive number of animated GIFs. Sharing content (aka “reblogging”) is the primary activity on Tumblr, which makes it both extremely viral and a perfect platform for fan activation.

Driving Transformational Change – Dan Musson [Podcast]

I mentioned in a recent SBB that I had interviewed Dan Musson CEO of the Australian Institute of Management (AIM) which for the past 75 years has been training and educating "people to become managers and managers to become leaders".

The interview was for my new podcast show - Let's Talk Leadership (for the Digital Age). We covered a lot of ground in this approximately half hour conversation, including new demands on business leaders, change management and digital disruption.

Dan's key point on how leaders need to deal with digital disruption and the related need for rapid adaption:

What’s needed is to stay focused on the customer and don’t get preoccupied with technology. “Don’t let technology drive your business. Let customers drive your business.”

And to help meet the new demands on managers, leaders and Board directores, from social media in particular, AIM is providing:

  • a Social Media Mastery course for senior managers to give them an operational understanding of social media and its implications
  • a program on social media for Board directors, focusing on strategy, customer interaction, the pros and cons of social media.

Coming up

I was delighted this week, especially as I'm a long time fan, to interview Charlene Li, known to many in the social media world and the wider world of business as Founder and CEO of Altimeter Group and best selling author of Groundswell, Open Leadership and - most recently - The Engaged Leader: A Strategy for Your Digital Transformation. I'll be posting the interview next week on my Let's Talk Leadership in the Digital Age podcast show and will provide the link to that in the next issue of Social Business Bites.
