BITES
It's good to have an infographic that is very clear (some of the more graphical ones make my head spin, and not with joy). A word of encouragement and one of caution. The encouragement is to study this excellent, very detailed list and see how it can help you in your
marketing/brand building.
The word of caution is to remember this is a list for a social media manager - i.e. someone who is paid to do social media all day, every day. So unless that's you, be sure not to be overwhelmed, but look at the lists for ideas of what you can do to improve
your social media game.
I don't know about
you, but I find it disconcerting when some social media startup takes a perfectly good word and gives it quite a new meaning, so that the accepted meaning and the social media platform or tool do not match.
But I do like Blab - the platform, that is, not the word so much. Or not what the word used to mean before Blab.im, the social media platform, came along.
The Oxford English dictionary meaning of "blab" is: vb 1.1 "reveal secrets by indiscreet talk" 1.2 "talk foolishly or
mindlessly"; noun - "one who blabs".
But Blab now means a "... a livestreaming platform that enables a public video chat among four participants at a time. If you are familiar with the likes of Periscope, Meerkat and Google
Hangouts, it basically combines all three".
Some people are tagging this a real game-changer for business. I'm keeping an open mind.
If you would like to experience a blab, you just sign in at blab.im with your Twitter account and you're away. On this coming Thursday Oct 15 at 5.30 Pacific time US/Canada (11.30 am Australian Eastern Daylight time, Friday 16th), I'm co-hosting a Blab with Sandi Coryell from California, on the important topic, Leadership and Dealing with Difficult People - you will be very welcome to come and join the conversation.
I keep a keen eye on commentary about business disruption, and I’m concerned that a lot of hyperbole is seeping in to the analysis about what constitutes
disruptive innovation, what the impact of disruption may be to companies and employees, and what can be done to foster productive disruption.
With so much being written about digital disruption, this article cuts through the noise, makes some neat distinctions and provides a helpful perspective on the realities of digital disruption and on the talk about it. I won't spoil it by telling you the punchline,
but it is worth the read.
