BITES

"Brands are always (looking for ways) to inspire their consumers and prospective customers and the newest channel for them to be able to accomplish this is through social media. Today, let's take a look at some of the funniest and most inspiring brands you need to follow on Twitter (in case you still aren't!)."

I'm always wary of "list" posts like this, especially when there is a "should follow" in the title. But there are indeed some interesting items here, some from very large brands. So this list could be very useful, especially if, like me, you are always looking out for brand/industry relevant tweets to re-tweet.

And if you use a dashboard like Hootsuite or Tweetdeck, you might want to take the items in this list, or a selection tailored to your interests, make your own list of these (and others if you choose), make that a column on your dashboard and in that way give yourself a little "tweet garden" to harvest for useful tweets to help populate your tweetstream with entertaining retweets.

If you have a small or medium sized business, you might experience frustration in getting a clear line on the value for you of social selling. Or, like many, you might actually wonder just what the term "social selling" really means. If either of those is true for you, this post is going to be especially useful for you. And useful for others with an interest in the concept and practice of social selling.

"In days gone by a buyer would expect the sales person to educate them about their product; today a typical B2B buyer has already done detailed research on a supplier, their products and their competitors before speaking to a sales person. Increasingly buyers are now turning to their online professional networks for recommendations to boost confidence in their buying decisions."

Like a lot of people, having been a fairly early adopter of Google Plus (Google+, G+) and for a time an advocate, I have become less enthusiastic lately.

But I've not been prepared to dismiss out of hand its relevance for business. This article quotes comments from Google+ to indicate that the platform's days are not over yet and are unlikely to be over for some time yet.

The author quotes Martin Shervington who for my money is the best independent explainer of Google+:

“With the release of this latest version of Google+ we see a new incarnation for the platform aspect, with a focus on Collections and Communities. This is great for those who are unleashing their inner geek, freed from the historic social relationships and dynamics on other platforms. People are free to tell the world about their love (of) Antique Motorbikes, and find the people who love them too.”

It's a very detailed examination of the recent changes to the platform and the implications for business.

At a time when the front pages of the newspapers might prompt us to feel we could do with some more positive news and inspiration, here comes social media -specifically Twitter - to the rescue, literally.
