BITES
I think "visual commerce" is a weird phrase. That said, this infographic actually has some useful info along with the graphic (and if you've been reading SBB for a while you know I am always surprised when an infographic is informative as distinct from pretty).
The key implications for me in this infographic and text are:
- Marketers know they should be using more and better visual content
- They are not clear about how to achieve that or confident in their ability to do so
The first two items illustrate this:
1. Marketers are feeling the heat (clients wanting to see the ROI on visual content)
2. Confidence in creative is (very) low
So, if you are paying for visual content, it could be time to have a friendly but firm conversation about ROI with your in-house or external provider.
And if you are in the business of content creation, the fragmented field of competition may be offering you a chance to stand out from the mob and
shine.
Twitter
chats, otherwise known as "hashtag" chats, can be a great way to get up to date information and insights on subjects of interest to you.
Mack Collier's #blogchat is a case in point - a gathering of experienced and newbie bloggers, sharing ideas and information, and making new connections.
As this article says:
Participating in Twitter chats is an excellent way to network without
traveling, grow your following and display your authority.
If you are a marketer you should find this article with its links and explanations a useful resource. If you would not describe yourself as a marketer, don't be put off by the "just for marketers" bit of the headline: you may well find a topic here of interest to you.
(Apologies for the CAPS - that's how the original displays the headline)
If you are looking for a form of words to share with colleagues or clients whose default position on social media is either stay clear or do nothing, this article could be handy. For the one place Australia is mentioned you could
substitute most any country and the paragraph would still make sense.
I liked this para and will no doubt make use of the analogy at the next available opportunity:
People will still do stupid things with social media but it shouldn’t deter the
rest of us, just like we don’t have to give up staplers in the office because people occasionally steal them.

Chris is Founding Partner of 7connections, a privately-owned
company that provides coaching and mentorship in independent dentistry and also provides Lifecycle Marketing training and support services to clients. More about Chris at his LinkedIn profile.

I look forward to your newsletter every week.
It is delivered in a format that allows me to speed-read and bookmark anything that I want to dwell on later.
You create a lot of bookmarks!
Most importantly, you give me a window on the future that makes me look very smart in front of my own client base.
I create my own material but I curate the material of others (with attribution) - and you are one of my top 3 curation sources.
Thank you.
