Although this article
is headed "Everything You Need to Know" - about Facebook Live - it's not one of those very long articles that go by that sort of headline. It's actually a quick read.
On the surface, Facebook Live is a basic feature that offers live-streaming video capabilities to users. By tapping the live stream icon, you can start broadcasting video live from your smartphone, and write an optional description for the event. Any users following you will have the ability to “tune in” to the broadcast. At the end of the video, you can tap “finish” to complete the video, at which point it will be posted as a permanently available feature on your
timeline. The maximum time limit for a broadcast is currently 30 minutes, and you can block specific users if you desire.
I would love to try out Facebook Live. I think it's brilliant and I'm quite jealous of those who use it. But the combination of not having an iPhone and living in Australia means I have to wait.
I believe one of the biggest challenges for
those of us who preach the business value of social media and at the same time, as many of us do, emphasize the value and necessity of authenticity, is to show how those two can work together in large corporations and large not-for-profit organizations. So this article is timely.
Social media today is all pervasive – anyone with a
smartphone can set up a periscope account and start broadcasting. But at Unilever our brands reach millions of people every day, so a key criteria in determining how we operate in this space is scale; everything we do needs to drive reach and provide brilliant brand experiences at large. With this in mind I focused on three key areas – connecting with authenticity, engaging with relevance and innovating with talkability.
Do you use Medium for publishing? I've
signed up for it but haven't really explored it. After reading this article I intend to do that and probably start posting there. I believe its main competitor is LinkedIn publishing - or maybe Facebook articles - but frankly I haven't really caught up with the Facebook one. So much to learn, so little time!
Note: this one is a long article, very much step by step
