While the other US (sports) leagues struggle to build international interest in their games, the NBA has leveraged social media and new technology to build a huge global following.
I don't have
the knowledge to comment on the basketball aspects of this article, but it is a powerful story of how entrepreneurial leadership, with some help from social media, can turn a national sports league into a global phenomenon.
It's especially instructive in how big-thinking entrepreneurs like Steve Ballmer and Mark Cuban look at
opportunity.
I found it totally absorbing and I hope you will find it interesting, at the very least.
What's the big deal about Chat Bots? This article makes some bold predictions. It also includes a 26 slide
deck - "Build Your Own Bots" - to illustrate its argument. With everyone talking about bots, I wanted to help provide deeper context about the future possibilities and how bots will reshape the entire marketing, eCommerce, social media, and services industry. We are entering a stage of conversational apps - a “bot net” that can
help you solve daily tasks easier than any app can. Let’s recap: Facebook Messenger, WeChat, Skype, Kik, Telegram, and LINE have their own chatbot APIs (so you can send/receive messages programmatically). Social bots can now reach 1.5B users, soon to be scaled to 3B users (once WhatsApp launches it). Bots will be the
hottest topic of 2016.
And if you want a simple definition or explanation of a (chat) bot so you can impress a dinner party (I know at least one reader benefits in that way from his weekly
scan of Social Business Bites), I found this in the article Bots, explained, by Kurt Wagner:
A bot is software that is designed to automate the kinds of tasks you would usually do on your own, like making a dinner reservation, adding an appointment to your calendar or fetching and displaying information. The increasingly common form of bots, chatbots, simulate conversation. They often live inside messaging apps — or are at least designed to look that way — and it should feel like you’re chatting back and forth as you would with a
human.
I can only
report this, not comment, as the tools have not showed up yet on my Instagram account. But it does look like an interesting development for those who want to employ Instagram for business.
New Instagram business tools: Business profile, Insights, Promote (These) will be rolling out in the US, Australia and New Zealand in the coming months, and will be available in all regions globally by the end of the year. Business profiles are a free feature for accounts wanting to be recognized as a business on Instagram. Insights on Instagram give businesses actionable information about who their followers are and which posts
resonate better than others—all from within the mobile app. The ability to promote lets you turn well-performing posts into ads right within the app—helping you connect with even more customers.
