BITES

I'm seriously intrigued by Snapchat.

For the benefit of those who like me came in late, Snapchat is a mobile app that allows you to send videos and pictures, both of which will self destruct after a few seconds of a person viewing them. It's also used as a messaging app.

I've previously been dismissive, mainly because I saw it as 12-to-20 yo territory and definitely not B2B. But then what if I had dismissed Twitter? Or Facebook? So this post by Jay Baer indicated to me that I should take more notice.

The stats apparently show that Snapchat:
  • is apparently better known in the US than Pinterest or LinkedIn
  • has more users than Pinterest, Twitter or LinkedIn
  • grew in one year as much as Twitter in four years combined
  • is incredibly popular amongst young Americans
I've signed up. New social media adventure!

Are you are in any business where it would help for a prospect to make an appointment with you, say for a "discovery" session as used by many coaches to see if there is a "fit" for prospect, coach, program. If so, an online calendar system is invaluable?

And having the ability to embed the service in your website or blog is better than sending the prospect off to a third party site away from yours. Hence the value of this feature from respected provider Calendly

There are three display options: widget, popup, popup text.

There is a limited free version, which might be all you need, and a premium with lots of features, at $8 a month paid annually. Also a free 14 day trial of premium, no credit card required for the trial (so you won't get caught if you forget!).

I'm still coming across web sites which are not just not mobile friendly but are virtually impossible to read, even on my up to date smartphone. Not surprisingly, some non-profit organizations feature in that problem, But commercial operations too.

There are few things more frustrating than arriving on a website from your smartphone only to find that it has not been optimized for mobile devices. Google announced that they would be tackling this first world problem by tweaking its search algorithm to prioritize mobile friendly websites in its results.

Essentially, if your site is not mobile-friendly, it will begin to disappear from smartphone users’ search results in May. Although the change will only affect search rankings on mobile devices, the key point to remember is that most of our browsing is now performed on mobile devices.

(Emphases added)

There are links in the post to take you to the free tests Google has provided for mobile and desktop.
