There are plenty of reviews online of
Facebook's F8 conference held in San Francisco this week. The short story seems to be "Wow!". And then there are the details.
I've refrained from having a bullet point list here of all the items announced, because I didn't think just having a list of item
titles would be exciting.
This article does a reasonable job of highlighting key items and has the additional virtue of having links to more information about particular items.
There was a lot announced.
As well as the announcement of various developer tools,
"...(CEO Mark) Zuckerberg also shared a 10-year roadmap for the company that basically consists of lasers, Virtual Reality, and bots. Zuck foresees the company making VR headsets small enough to look like ordinary glasses."
Facebook Messenger, according to the reviewer, was the star of the
show.
When Facebook augmented their ‘Like’ feature with 5 new emoji reactions it seemingly became a catalyst for major advertisers to jump on the bandwagon. Evidence? Appboy, the mobile marketing automation vendor, have studied over 9,000 marketing campaigns and discovered that emoji usage has increased almost 8x in the past year.
And this from one of the comments on the article (James McLaren-Rowe)
People are using emojis more and more, they've really captured the imagination, although in fairness I think it's also reducing the ability of people to express
themselves through language. However, they're good fun so, for the most part, it's a 👍🏻 from me!
I like using Instagram and I am often surprised and delighted to see that a picture I took at the beach or on a walk around the neighbourhood has drawn likes from a range of people around the world. Similarly, I love seeing pictures posted by friends far away. But I have not cracked the code for making Instagram a useful tool for my
marketing.
I'm thinking this detailed, well illustrated article might help me get my IG act together.
Instagram isn't just a go-to social network for individuals anymore.
Many marketers have caught wind that it's a powerful social network they need to have some sort of presence on.
The platform's heavy emphasis on visual content like photos, videos, illustrations, and GIFs is becoming a critical way for brands to communicate their story and message.Plus, it's a great way for businesses to humanize their brand,
recruit future employees, showcase their product and content, and delight and engage customers.
