Another nail in the coffin of Google's dreams of dominating social media via Google+, although I seem to recall they denied early on that Google+
was a social media platform. The good news is that Hangouts on Air will remain. The bad news for some is that they will not link with your Google+ circles. And I don't know the implications for those of us who had recently latched onto a neat trick for using Hangouts on Air but not making them publicly available.
The article includes a step by step
explanation of how to use Hangouts on Air with YouTube Live.
Google today quietly announced that Google+ Hangouts On Air will no longer be available on September 12. Four weeks from now, Google users will be asked to use YouTube Live instead. ....
To be clear, Hangouts On Air will still exist in some form, it just won’t be tied to Google+. Hangouts On Air users are being forced to use YouTube Live’s
built-in events scheduling feature instead.

Move over Snapchat, here come Instagram Stories. Another example of why not to put all our hopes on any one social media platform, although it's good to get familiar and comfortable with types of platforms.
Instagram these days is owned by Facebook, so yes it is another bit of imperial expansion into our personal and business lives.
It's a good, detailed article, outlining why the coming of Instagram Stories is "great news" for business, and providing clear, step by step instructions, which the five year olds won't need, but I
do.
If you follow social media trends at all, you’ve surely heard that Instagram has stepped into the ring to take on Snapchat. If not, here’s what happened.
Snapchat offers a feature called Stories, which enables users to post a series of photos or videos that disappear after 24 hours. Instagram has replicated this feature, allowing Instagram users to share pics and videos that won’t show up in their profiles and instead disappear
later.

This link was sent to me during the week. It's a very handy resource in the category of tools we need to keep our social media presences looking good.
The
background is that every social media platform has different requirements for images, e.g. the "cover art" or "hero images" or "banners" or whatever terminology is used. It's a right royal pain to have to go looking for these requirements every time you need to update something.
The site includes information for the key platforms plus a few you might not use
or maybe might not have even heard of. The list is:
Twitter, YouTube, Google+, Flickr, Vimeo, Pinterest, Skype, Tumblr, LinkedIn, Gravatar, Xing, Viadeo, Slideshare, Foursquare, About.me,

Latest Episode from the Let's Talk Leadership Podcast Show
According to the World Bank, if the global nonprofit sector were a country it would have the sixteenth largest economy in the world. In 2012 alone the nonprofit sector in the USA delivered $878 billion to the national
economy, about 5.4% of the country's GDP. So leadership of nonprofits would be important, wouldn't you think? But there has been little research on that, the research in the field concentrating on the forprofit and government sectors. In this podcast I talk especially about the qualities and skills needed for successful leadership of nonprofits.
