As this article points out, one of the toughest parts of using social media effectively for business is in finding where your ideal clients hang out and then how best to engage with them there. (As a footnote, I don't even try to argue these days with business owners who say "my clients are not on social media" and now should you.

If you are like most business people or marketers, locating your ideal customers and prospects is often a big challenge - in fact, a key finding in the 2016 Social Media Marketing Industry Report by Social Media Examiner discovered that one of areas that marketers (and most other businesses) struggle with most, is locating their ideal customer and prospects (this was true for 86% of the people who took the survey).

This article sets out a practical strategy for finding and engaging with your ideal clients via social media, with good examples, and adds some great tips on engagement (as distinct from counter-productive message blasting).

I really don't have a clue about Pokémon GO, except perhaps that some related news items don't fill me with eagerness to try, for instance this item from today's news about Pokémon GO "attacks" (MCT news - grammar not edited):

In North San Diego County, California two men fell off a bluff while playing the smartphone game, while farther north in Anaheim, a player was stabbed by group of men in a park recently.

But the phenomenon/craze is all over social (and probably mainstream) media so I couldn't really let this issue go without some reference.

Good article here explaining the marketing strategy. What I find interesting is that it is not new technology but a smart way of harnessing technology that we already have access to.

If you have spent any time playing the new app that will soon surpass Twitter's active user count, you will notice its key features are augmented reality, geolocation, and a recognizable franchise. All these are perfect tools for their users to create unimaginable and humorous content that will provide The Pokémon Company with free marketing - as we have seen.

An interesting article, highlighting several failed (and costly) attempts by Google to become dominant in the social media space and suggesting that instead of trying to create something new they would be better off buying Twitter. Personally, I think that would sound a death knell for Twitter, but maybe it's a good idea.

Just think, Google has tried to disrupt the social media market with Google Buzz, Google Friend Connect, and Google +, and they’ve all failed. I think that means that they just don’t get social media. Instead of trying to disrupt by creating a new app or program they could take a different tack. They could purchase a ready-made and successful social network for a knockdown price, like Twitter, who are notoriously experiencing growth stagnation. A purchase could benefit both parties and set them on a winning track.
